We asked for twice as many scholars as we needed and nearly all the people we asked agreed to write an essay and donate their royalty and republication earnings to SHAFR. After the roundtable appeared in Diplomatic History, I re-edited it with the title, The End of the Cold War: Its Meaning and Implications, which sold thousands of copies because so many Americans were interested in what this apparently sudden turn of events meant for the United States and the world.
